Surf’s Up is a 2007 computer-animated film from Sony Pictures Animation. It will be directed by Ash Brannon and Chris Buck, and feature an extensive voice-cast including Shia Lebeouf, Jeff Bridges, Zooey Deschanel, Jon Heder, Mario Cantone, James Woods, Michael McKean, Jane Krakowski, Rebecca Honig, Diedrich Bader, Rob Machado, Kelly Slater, and Sal Masekela.

Why is it that so many actors are always drawn to voiceover work?

The film is a mockumentary and chronicles the invention of surfing, which actually came about through penguins. It takes you behind the scenes at the Penguin World Surfing Championship. Shia Lebeouf does the voice of penguin Cody Maverick, who wants to be just like his hero, surfing legend Big Z.

Shia Lebeouf is a young actor that is making waves (it’s a surfing movie; get it?) in Hollywood. Ever since his breakout role in Holes, he’s been in several blockbuster films such as Constantine and I, Robot, and he’s got a lot more on his plate, such as Transformers and Indiana Jones 4, playing Indy’s son.

Jon Heder’s character Napoleon Dynamite became a household name when the movie of the same name came out in 2004. He was most recently seen in Blades of Glory, opposite Will Ferrel.

Jane Krakowski rose to fame as Elaine Vassal on the television show Ally McBeal. She can currently be seen on the NBC comedy 30 Rock, opposite Tina Fey.

Diedrich Bader is famous for this role as Oswald Lee Harvey on the long-running ABC sitcom The Drew Carey Show. He also starred opposite Jon Heder in Napolean Dynamite.

Are you sick of penguins yet? After March of the Penguins, Farce of the Penguins, and Happy Feet, this is the fourth penguin movie to come out in just the last couple of years. If you’re not too penguined-out, Surf’s Up opens on June 8, 2007.
