Spiderman 3: Spidey vs The Sandman

The Spider-man movie franchise is one of the most successful movie franchises of all time and there’s little wonder why. The character of Spider-man has been popular since his “birth” in the sixties and fans have been waiting for years for a big screen adaptation. Finally, we have the technology to bring a real, web-slinging Spider-man to life and he’s been met with an absolutely amazing reception. Now, this term might be a little corny for my tastes, but there’s no doubt that we are in the midst of Spider-mania.

Spidey has been fighting quite a varied rogues gallery over the years. The Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus were featured in Spider-man one and two, respectively, but now it’s Flint Marko’s turn. Flint Marko aka the Sandman has a unique power – he can turn his entire body into sand. While this may not seem as intimidating as an alien symbiote, the Sandman is quite capable of holding his own against the webslinger.

Marko worked as a mob enforcer for a while and ended up getting throw in the slammer. Upon his escape, he made his way to a beach and came in conduct with sand that had become irradiated by a reactor, and his body bonded with it and it transformed his molecular structure into a sand-like substance, giving him his amazing powers.

The Sandman first made his appearance in Amazing Spider-man #4 in 1963, making him one of Spider-man’s oldest foes. In 2007, he comes to the big screen in Spider-man 3, courtesy of Wings and Sideways alumni Thomas Haden Church.
