Where are they now? Mackenzie Astin

Sean Astin isn’t exactly unknown, but he’s not exactly a huge moviestar, either. I know the Goonies is a cult classic. I know he was in the Lord of the Rings trilogy as the main character’s right-hand man! While that definitely got people to stop calling him “that guy from the Goonies” and start calling him by his name, he still isn’t a big, hotshot movie star by any stretch of the imagination. It’s important to mention that I’m not talking about his talent; I think he’s extremely talented. I’m just saying that in the big, bad world of Hollywood, it’s not easy getting to the top, and Sean Astin still has a ways to go.

With all that said, imagine what it’s like for his brother, Mackenzie.

Mackenzie Astin landed his first acting gig in the television movie Lois Gibbs and the Love Canal. However, most people remember him from the hit sitcom The Facts of Life, where he played Andy Stickle.

He’s been in several other television programs and movies, such as Harrison Bergeron (with his brother Sean), I dream of Jeannie: 15 Years Later, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, and Widow’s Kiss, which starred Beverly D’Angelo. He has also guest starred on Brookly Bridge, House, The Outer Limits, Without a Trace, Justice, and the hugely popular Lost.

In 2001, he starred in the NBC drama first years, but the show was cut short, very short.

On top of his television work, Astin has worked in many movies. He played the lead role in Iron Will, which was based on a true story. He played a character named Will Stoneman, whose father passes away and he’s left to care for his mother and their land. When he desperately needs money, he takes part in a cross country dogsled race.

Astin has also appeared in The Evening Star, Wyatt Earp, and The Last Day’s of Disco.

Here's a trailer for a short film that Mackenzie was in called Duncan Removed.
