Hot Rod is an upcoming 2007 comedy film starring Will Arnett, Isla Fisher, Bill Hader, Danny McBride, Ian McShane, Andy Samberg, and Sissy Spacek. The film is directed by Akiva Schaffer and written by Pam Brady, Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer. It’s being distributed by Paramount Pictures with a release date of August 3, 2007.
Andy Samberg plays Rod Kimble, a self-proclaimed stuntman. Kimble prepares for the biggest stunt of his life: jump a motorcycle over fifteen buses, all to pay for his stepfather Frank’s life-saving heart operation.
Andy Samberg is part of the comedic filmmaking trio The Lonely Island, along with Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer. The three originally formed the group in Los Angeles, where they shot numerous shorts and skits. Samberg, Schaffer, and Taccone all joined the sketch comedy program Saturday Night Live as writers in 2005. Samberg would also act.
Akiva Schaffer, the director of the film, has also directed numerous Saturday Night Live digital shorts, as well as music videos for the band We Are Scientists, as well as one video for the band Eagles of Death Metal.
Jorma Taccone (pronounced Yorma), the third member of the trio, played the lead role in The ‘Bu, The Lonely Island’s parody of The O.C. He played a ninja that was out of place.
Ian McShane plays Rod stepfather Frank. McShane is best known for his role as Al Swearengen on the critically acclaimed HBO drama Deadwood. He also does the voice of Captain Hook in Shrek the Third.
Will Arnett is best known for his role as George Bluth II on the hit television comedy Arrested Development. He was also in RV, Let’s Go To Prison, and Blades of Glory.
Bill Hader, who plays Dave in the movie, is a fellow Saturday Night Live cast member.
Here’s a clip of Samberg on The Late Show with David Letterman discussing The Lonely Island and Saturday Night Live. The interview is a few years old, so there is no mention of Hot Rod.
