Gerard Butler: Scottish actor in the movie 300

Is there a guy out who isn’t excited about 300? The upcoming movie about the battle of Thermopylae looks to be epic. The story of the Spartans is an amazing one, and King Leonidas, played by Gerard Butler, is the brave soul (and complete badass) who led them into battle.

I first noticed Gerard Butler in Timeline, which is unfortunate, because Timeline was a terrible movie. However, Gerard Butler got his big break in 2000, when he played the title roles in the USA TV movie Attila and Wes Craven’s Dracula 2000. In both cases, the producers wanted name actors for the roles but were eventually won over by Butler’s acting chops. Butler went on to star in Joel Schumacher’s Phantom of the Opera, playing the titular character. Before he worked on 300, he played Beowulf in Beowulf and Grendel.

If there’s anything that his filmography tells us, it’s that he most definitely has the frightening presence to play the king of the Spartans. From Attila the Hun to Dracula and the Phantom of the opera to Beowulf, I’m getting mighty excited about seeing Butler in 300.
