The Haunted World of El Superbeasto (animated horror/comedy)

Ah, now there’s a title for you! From the twisted mind of Rob Zombie, director of House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects, comes an animated tale about good triumphing over evil! Well, sort of.

Tom Papa, a comedian whose a regular on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with David Letterman, and Late Night with Conan O’brien, co-wrote the film with Rob Zombie and also voices the lead character, El Superbeasto.

The Haunted World of El Superbeasto is based off of a comic that Zombie wrote. El Superbeasto is a washed-up wrestler who, along with his sister, Suzi-X (voiced by Sherri Moon, Zombie’s wife), takes on the evil Dr. Satan, voiced by Paul Giamatti. Giamatti is a fantastic actor who has been in numerous films; most recently M. Night Shyamalan’s Lady In The Water. If there’s a more mischievous villain name than “Dr. Satan”, I don’t know it!

The voice cast also includes the likes of Brian Posehn (Just Shoot Me, Comedians of Comedy), Danny Trejo (Spy Kids), and Rob Paulsen (lots of voice work). The film is being directed by a man named Mr. Lawrence, who’s most notable directing effort has been an episode of Rocko’s Modern Life, and Carey Yost, who has done production art for several popular cartoons, such as Spongebob Squarepants.

To be honest, I’ve never seen any of Rob Zombie’s work. I’ve heard nothing but bad things about House of 1000 Corpses; on top of that, I’m not big on gore, so I have zero interest in seeing that.

However, I’ve heard just the opposite about The Devil’s Rejects and I’ve been meaning to check it out for some time now.

As for The Haunted World of El Superbeasto? Anyone who knows me can tell you that I’m a sucker for any sort of superhero and it seems that El Superbeasto may be a good, old fashioned superhero romp.

Check out Hairballs, an animated short from Mr. Lawrence. It's pretty hilarious. Be warned though, there's some foul language and violence. It's definitely not for kids.
